Chief of the Defense Staff
Chief of the defence staff is a rank which was announced by the Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi . It was generally announced for effective leadership of all the armed forces. It is also known as Chief of Defense Staff. The first appointment of this post was given to General Bipin Rawat. It was basically announced on 15th august 2019.
Reason behind the appointment of Chief of the Defence Staff:-
I) Coordination With Different armed forces of India.
II) Effective leadership among all armed forces of India.
Power and Work of Chief of Defense Staff:-
i) The power of giving all important order to defence forces is given to Cheif of Defense Staff.
ii) He is the highest commanding officer of all the armed forces.
iii) He also gives advices to Ministry of Defence for different welfare and war strategies.
The chief of the defence staff has given a newly made office of Vice Chief of Defense Staff. It is the second highest ranking military officer in India.
Current Chief of Defense Staff of India

General Bipin Rawat is the current Chief of Defense staff of India. He was born on 16 March 1958. He joined Indian Army on 16 December 1978. He is the First Chief of defense staff of India. He was appointed on 30 December 2019 and assumed his office on 1 January 2020.
